Every mom needs to laugh at herself from time to time, release those endorphins and feel the tension relax as the caffeine courses though her veins, and it’s much MUCH easier to do that when they know they’re not alone. You’re not the only one wondering whether the brown stain on your shirt is poo or chocolate or if you remembered to pack diapers right at the moment your kid decides to have a blowout in the middle of the highway while in bumper-to-bumper traffic.
This new project will be a combination of things for me. I’m a writer, that’s what I do. I mostly have focused my skill on Fiction as that’s what draws ME in – however, I appreciate my blog in that it allows me to destress and share the highs and lows of my life. Being a mother is hard, being a wife is definitely harder (say what you will, but husbands are much more difficult to figure out), being the one who has to deal with every tear, every load of laundry, every dirty window and odd stain on the rug (I still don’t know what it is, and I can’t get it out – fuck it). All of it is hard, but a part of life that is writing my story for me, while I create others.
However, sharing those moments is what allows me to connect with other women, mothers, fathers, writers and so forth! Which is why I’ve finally decided to do some real shit. REAL stories from REAL moms compiled into a lovely little book that we can share with each other as well as new moms as they join this crazy club where no matter what potty training technique you follow, it ALWAYS involves wine.
I have been cracking UP over the stories you ladies have been sending me, so PLEASE keep them coming! Shoot me an email (the contact section above also links to my email if that’s easier for you) of your nastiest, craziest, funniest, most embarrassing moments that left you running to the store for the third time one day just to get more wine!
Because, let’s face it, there’s NEVER enough.
Also, feel free to share with any of your mommy friends or family members that you know will have something amazing to contribute.
This is all in fun and I aim to share only first names and number of children you have – you CAN remain anonymous, but I would prefer not to since the whole point is connecting with one another.
You may send just a sentence of how you view motherhood – how it differs from what you THOUGHT it would be. You can send a paragraph, page, short story of anything you like that’s happened in your life of mommy hood – just write it as if you’re telling girlfriends over a glass or 7 of wine. I want this to be personal, fun and a way to show each other that it’s all not going to be sunshine and rainbows. We all have those moments where we completely fail at this thing and that’s OK! We don’t have to take ourselves too seriously, because believe me, everyone else already does that enough for us – someone has to give us a break. Might as well be ourselves!
I would like all submissions by the end of March!
