Write More – Worry Less

IMG_5278.JPGFirst, I feel the burning need to share this.  This shit smells like what I imagine the scent of heaven is like.  It smells like Ryan Reynolds looks.  It smells like a pink unicorn’s breath!  My friend gave this to me, probably because I always have a layer of sweat and my own scent is more like my dog’s breath mixed with a little baby poop, but whatever the reason… this shit is a must have.  I don’t know how I’ve existed so long without it!

Now, on to more work type things!  I was talking to my good friend about my blog and how I want to make sure I’m conveying the true purpose of it, which is to practice my writing and hopefully get people interested in what I have to say, my journey and possibly get a decent following so if and when I ever get published… people will feel like reading about my boring life was worth it!

My general way of speaking is sprinkled with sarcasm, humor and awkwardness… can’t escape it.  This is me.  But, my actual writing is much different.  I enjoy a deeper, darker story that leaves you with a feeling of “Well… my life is over now that I finished that book… what do I even do with myself now”.  This is what I hope to do to others with my own!  SO!  If you look to the left of your screen, in the sidebar of my website, you’ll see a new little “Widget” there… that’s what they call it here on WordPress… it’s a thing… anyway, it’s called Short Stories.  You’ll also see I have added one already!

I have begun writing my second book as well (because I have a surplus of extra time to just sit and do that)… not… I’m barely over 10,000 words in 3 months …which seems like a lot, but I haven’t touched it in 2 months… so I spit a bunch of shit out and shelved it because holidays, broken legs, teeth, dinosaurs coming back from extinction and destroying life.  But!  The good news is, I have created a supporting character in it, that I REALLY love.  Which sounds creepy, because she’s not real, I made her up… but I really like her story and I hope you all do too!  The book has a more condensed version because she’s not a main character, but this is a more full version of who she is, where she came from and why she ends up on that quiet little street in Massachusetts.  I like her because her story is full of turmoil but when she moves with her new husband to this neighborhood, she is hopeful that her life will change for the better.  But she is an outsider once again.  She is judged because she’s young and beautiful but they have not yet given her a chance.  I think people do that a lot in life… judge a book by it’s cover so to speak.  I hope you all enjoy it, and her, as much as I do.  I enjoyed writing that piece a lot, so if you don’t like it… it’ll just be depressing.  And I’ve had enough of that shit lately!

Cori is seeming to be in a better mood the last couple of days.  We have another check up on her leg tomorrow, which should be a disaster.  But the good news is, the dentist (who has probably begun a report with CPS on me by now) said that her tooth is fine!  Finally… FINALLY some good news.  Both girls are on the tail end of their colds as well, so that’s a relief.  We have desperately needed some peace and quiet around here!  I have eaten a record breaking amount of chocolate chip cookies in the last week and I think my husband is about to stage an intervention.  I couldn’t even go on my run yesterday because my body was rejecting the pound of sugar and butter coursing through my system.  BUT… today is a new day!  Well… Saturday will be, because the doctor visit will be over and we can just enjoy the weekend, just us… attempting to get back into our natural family rhythm.  We have never wanted so badly for things to be dull around here.

More semi-good news, Diem decided to take more steps today!  She has been on a strict, 4 step a week, maximum.  But today… today she took 7 steps.

We sang!  We rejoiced!  We watched Bubble Guppies!

Then sIMG_5244.JPGhe squat her chubby little legs back down and that was it.  It’s the little things.  I’m just glad she’s not dripping snot all over the place and choking on her mucus.  TMI?  I don’t care.

I also got the opportunity to enjoy my bubble bath shit, wine, Stevie Nicks and a book and it was all that I dreamed of and more.

I leave you with another recipe and the promise that I will eventually post an excerpt in the Short Story widget of my first book.  I just am not sure yet which section, but I’ll get with those who have already read it and see what their thoughts are!

IMG_3512.JPGTurkey Burgers

1 lb lean ground turkey meat

1 egg

1/4 cup panko crumbs

1/2 tsp onion powder

1/2 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tsp oregano

1/2 tsp chili powder

1/2 tsp cumin

1/2 tsp salt

1/4 tsp pepper

1/4 tsp cayenne pepper

Sprinkle of red pepper flakes

1 avocado

Sliced Pepper jack or Swiss cheese

1 red onion, thinly sliced

  1. Combine all the ingredients and separate into 6 patties.  I usually place a ball of the mixture in my palm and when I have a small handful I roll and then flatten to about 3/4 inch thick.
  2. Heat your griddle with some olive oil pam spray, or your grill and cook 6 mins each side.  A couple minutes in, place a slice of your pepper jack or Swiss cheese so it gets nice and melted.
  3. toasted your whole wheat buns about 2 minutes and place your patty.  Top with Avocado slices, some thinly sliced red onion, and Sriracha (optional- my husband likes it).
